From Auckland airport drive through the city and over the Auckland Harbour Bridge (there is only one). Stay on State Highway 1 for approximately one hour until you reach Warkworth. Do not drive through Warkworth but stay on State Highway 1 and turn right at the third set of traffic lights and drive through the intersection and up the little incline on your right. *** The signs will say Sandspit and Snells Beach. Drive about five minutes until you come to a big wide curve and another Sandspit sign on your left. Drive down the windy road until you reach the water. Saltings Estate is ideally located on the coast in Sandspit, Matakana. This magical spot is the gateway to the Hauraki Gulf and a mere forty five minutes north of Auckland city. Here you can totally relax and enjoy the many activities this area has to offer. The Saltings is only ten minutes from the thriving town of Warkworth and the quaint Matakana village yet a world away from noise and trafficWe are just a short drive from lots of local wineries, beaches, golf courses, marine reserve and Kawau Island via ferry from Sandspit. Of course, right on our doorstep we have fabulous bars, cafes, restaurants, sculpture and art trails, shops, Morris James Pottery and the cinema.* Saltings Estate offers a private tour of the organic/biodynamic vineyard by Terry the owner and viticulturist. He will explain how we cultivate the vineyard and the reasons we do this form of viticulture. This will be followed by a tasting of our wines with an anti-pasta platter. It is a wonderful and informative experience for those with an interest in wine. Advance bookings for the tour are essential to ensure that he is available. We charge $30 per person for groups of six or more and $45 per person for less than six people. *The Vintry Wine Bar, Brick Bay Sculpture Trail, Charlies Gelato and the Brookview Tea House are all highly recommended. Restaurants, cafes, wine and art trails are here in abundance and there are three superb cinemas in Matakana for the odd rainy day.Stunning beaches with safe swimming are close by and the regional parks and islands of the Hauraki Gulf are well worth exploring for those looking for surfing, snorkelling, scuba diving or boating and fishing adventures. Tawharanui regional park, Kawau Island and Goat Island Marine Reserve are all within easy travelling distance from the Saltings. *Walking is a pleasure here. Imagine not having to get into your car to get to the beach! It is only ten minutes away and there is a cute cafe on the Sandspit jetty. Hikers will love the scenic bush tracks from Sandspit that lead to Horseshoe Bay and Brick Bay with their tranquil, pristine beaches and coves.BR
