The Empire Hotel has historic associations with Palmerston North - it was the citys first school. In 1890 the school was relocated and the building was converted into a hotel and has been a popular hotel both for local residents and visitors to the city.

How to get to The Empire Hotel
Taxi from the Airport taxi 5 minutes and costs $15 - $20, Taxi from the train station takes 5 mins and costs $10.Travelling via car from the North: - Travel down Rangitikei St into The Square, turn left, follow the Square and turn left into Main St, travel 200m and you will see The Empire on your right on the Cnr of Main & Princess St. Coming from The East or Hawkes Bay just follow the main highway in, it changes name into main st on the city boundary. Keep travelling along until you reach intersection of Princess & main st, where you will see us straight ahead of you.
If coming from wellington on SH 57, you will travel passed Massey University, continue on the same highway which will change name to become Fitzherbert Ave. Travel down Fitzherbert Ave until you get to the intersection of Ferguson & Fitzherbert (you will see burger king on your left).Turn right into Ferguson, travel along 400m until you get to the lights on Ferguson & Princess St where you turn left. Travel up Princess St through one set of lights and you will see us on cnr of Princess and Main st.
