Stay at the Old Countryhouse and escape the hustle from the moment you step through the garden gate. One of Christchurchs favourite backpacker hostels for 13 years. We invite you to take a walk along our garden path to one of our charming colonial villas with polished wooden floors and hand-made native timber furniture.

All our villas have been fully restored and have everything to make your stay with us a memorable one. They are set among landscaped gardens, and have electronic secure access.

Choose from our comfortable double, twin, single or dorm rooms, some ensuite bathrooms. Full central heating keeps you toasty warm during the winter months. Bedroom linen is provided.

The Old Countryhouse is well-equipped, with farmhouse style kitchens, warm guest lounge rooms, WiFi internet, off-street parking. Our staff are experienced in tourism, just ask at reception for tour and travel bookings and assistance.

Please contact us via email or phone, in advance if you plan to arrive after 6pm, we will be able to arrange a late check-in for you. However, in consideration to our other dorm guests we will only arrange a late check in for guests with bookings into a private room. How to get to The Old Countryhouse Backpackers

The Old Countryhouse is located on the corner of Gloucester St and Stanmore Rd, and is easily reached from the airport by public bus or shuttle. Catch the number 3 bus to the bus exchange, then change for the number 21, this will drop you at our front door.

Out and About

Close to the central city including Christchurch museum, Hagley Park, art gallery, botanic gardens (20 minute walk).

A short walk from Eastgate shopping centre, and the bus to the Riccarton Rd shopping and restaurant area leaves from our front door.

Opposite the hostel (1 minute walk) you will find local shops including pizza, subway sandwiches, a small local pub, supermarket and more. Within 5-10 minutes walk youll get to our favourite cafe and also to a variety of restaurants
